Prep for Walls Never Papered
New drywall in your home gets primed before the first strip goes up, so the paper holds now and comes down cleanly when you redecorate. Skip it, and the drywall face can tear when the paper comes down.

Leland's housing is young. The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey puts 88 percent of the town's homes at 2000 or later, with a median build year of 2010, against 2002 for Brunswick County as a whole. For wallpaper installation, that changes the first stage of the job. In a house that new, the walls have most likely never been papered, so there is rarely old paper to strip, but there is bare or builder-painted drywall that has to be sealed first.
That sealing step matters more than it sounds. Paper hung on unsealed drywall bonds to the drywall's own paper face, and when you redecorate in ten years, the face tears off with it. A wallpaper primer gives the paste something to grip now and lets the paper release later.
The older end of town is different. Magnolia Greens dates to the late 1990s, and homes from that first wave may still carry an earlier owner's paper. In those rooms we remove it and repair the wall before anything new goes up.
Leland is also close. It sits five miles west of Wilmington, across the Cape Fear River. Census figures show about 94 percent of Leland homes occupied, so the house being papered is usually one somebody lives in.
In most of our jobs the paper has already been chosen, by the homeowner or by an interior designer. Our job is to make it look like the sample once it's on your wall. Every wallpaper installation is done by our own W-2 crew, and a powder room plus an accent wall is a typical day's work. The full method, including how we handle corners and pattern repeats, is on our wallpaper installation page.
For paper not yet ordered, a roll count worked out from the pattern repeat, so you order once
Wall prep, including primer on new or unsealed drywall
Old paper removed and the wall repaired first, wherever there is any
A true plumb line to start from, set with a level rather than the room's corner
Strips matched seam to seam, with the repeat kept level around the room
Inside corners hand-cut, never wrapped
Floors and fixtures near the wall protected while the crew works
A final walkthrough with you, then cleanup

New construction changes the prep, not the hanging. Fresh drywall gets primed before paper. Builder paint on newer walls is often a flat finish, so we check that it is sound and well bonded before priming over it. Walls with a sprayed texture are a judgment call, and we tell you before booking whether they need smoothing or a liner first. In a 1990s home, old paper comes off and the wall is repaired as part of the job, which can add time.

New drywall in your home gets primed before the first strip goes up, so the paper holds now and comes down cleanly when you redecorate. Skip it, and the drywall face can tear when the paper comes down.

We're a second-generation wallpaper company and Wallpaper Installers Association members. Each inside corner is hand-cut, never wrapped, so the pattern leaves it level on the next wall.

Leland sits just across the Cape Fear River from Wilmington. We answer the phone and call before we arrive. Our 1-year workmanship guarantee covers the installation.

The wallpaper estimate is instant, and we're usually booked two to three weeks out. Our average job takes a day or less, and the quote is the quote we honor.
From the first conversation to the finished room.
01Request the instant estimate and tell us the room, the paper and whether the walls are new, painted or papered.
02Haven't ordered? Send the pattern and we size the order to its repeat, so one purchase covers the room. Booking usually puts the install date two to three weeks away.
03We call before we arrive. Builder-fresh drywall gets its primer coat, or an older wall is stripped and repaired first; then the first strip goes up on a plumb line.
04You check the seams and corners with us before we pack up, and the room is left clean. Our 1-year workmanship guarantee covers the installation.
Use the instant estimate for an exact number; we don't publish rates, because two Leland rooms of the same size can price very differently. What moves the number:
Wall area and height, which decide the number of strips
The paper: grasscloth and vinyl each hang their own way, and unpasted papers hang differently
The pattern repeat, since large repeats mean more cuts and waste
Prep: priming new drywall, smoothing texture, or stripping and repairing an older wall
Cutouts and access, such as a vanity, mirror and toilet in a powder room
Pricing here is the same as in Wilmington, with no travel component. If priming new drywall adds a step, it shows as its own line, so you can see what it costs. The quote is the quote we honor. It covers labor and cleanup, and the paper itself is separate unless you buy it through us. Military households get 10% off.

Papering one wall and painting the rest? One company handles both, in the right order.

Still choosing? We source trade papers for you, including a hard-to-find pattern.

From our Wilmington base, we serve Leland and the surrounding Brunswick County area, plus the rest of the coastal Carolinas corridor.
