Prep Matched to Your House's Decade
Tell us roughly when your Hubert home was built. A 1990s house and a 2015 house fail in different places, and the prep we quote follows the particular one you actually live in.

Hubert has no Census place boundary, so the figures here are for the Hubert ZIP code (28539), an area that covers more ground than the community. Per the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, 23.4 percent of homes were built in the 1990s, 22.0 percent in the 2000s and 21.7 percent in the 2010s. The median build year is 1999.
Those waves wear differently. A house from the 1990s has had a quarter century of living: earlier repaints in sheens that no longer match, filled holes from old shelves, and patches that flash through a single new coat. A 2010s house is more likely to carry the builder's flat paint, which marks easily and doesn't scrub well, plus nail pops where fasteners backed out as the framing settled. The prep we quote follows the decade you own.
A smaller share is older: 18.3 percent of homes in the ZIP code were built before 1980, so layered paint and earlier repairs may turn up in some houses as well. Those walls get their own prep, covered in the questions below.
Nearly one home in five in the Hubert ZIP code is a manufactured home, and vinyl-covered wall panels need a bonding primer before paint will hold.
Hubert sits in Onslow County, west of Swansboro, and our painters come up from Wilmington.
Intracoastal is a second-generation wallpaper company that also paints, so we look at a wall the way a paperhanger does, hunting for every dent before a coat goes on. Whoever paints your rooms works under our $2M general liability and workers' comp policies. A wall is ready for color only once it reads flat under a light held low along it, the same check an installer makes before hanging paper. Adding a papered accent wall? One estimate can cover both trades. Our interior painting page has the full step-by-step.
Walls, ceilings, trim and doors, as you choose
Floors and furniture covered first
Holes and cracks filled, then sanded smooth
Patches and stains spot-primed so they don't flash through
Trim joints caulked
A sheen picked for each surface
A room-by-room walkthrough, then cleanup

For a 1990s house, plan on more filling and spot-priming of old repairs, and a sheen check, since years of touch-ups rarely match. A 2000s house usually falls in between: a few older repairs, some builder paint, rarely much of either. For a 2010s house, nail pops are reset and filled before painting, and flat builder paint gets a finish you can wipe. Your estimate names the prep that fits your house's decade, so a newer house isn't charged for work it doesn't need. Ceilings follow the same pattern. An older one may show water stains or patched cracks that need a stain-blocking primer, while a newer one mostly needs a clean, even coat.

Small bumps along drywall turn up often in newer houses as framing settles. We reset and fill each one before the finish coat so it doesn't push back through the new paint.

Planning a wallpaper accent wall too? One company schedules both trades, painting first so the coat cures before the installer arrives with your paper.

Your painter is covered by our $2M general liability and workers' comp. We phone you before we arrive.
From the first conversation to the finished room.
01List the rooms and pick the decade your Hubert house was built. Phone photos of problem spots, like nail pops, cracks or patched holes, help us plan the work.
02Your estimate separates prep from painting, so you can see what an older or newer house needs.
03We call before we arrive. The crew covers floors and furniture, fills and sands, resets nail pops, spot-primes, then paints.
04You check every wall with the painter and point out anything to touch up, and the crew cleans up before anyone leaves the house.
We price the rooms you send rather than publish a per-room rate, and you see the number before anything is booked. What moves it:
Square footage and ceiling height
Surfaces: walls only, or ceilings, trim and doors as well
Prep, which depends heavily on the decade the house was built
Furnished rooms or an empty house
Number of colors and sheens
Wall type: drywall or vinyl-covered panel
House age is the local factor to watch. A 1990s house tends to need more patching and sheen work, and a 2010s house more nail-pop repair, though every house differs, which is why the estimate itemizes prep. An empty house also tends to cost less than a furnished one, because less time goes into moving and covering things. Paint and supplies are included in the quote. Once you accept the estimate, that figure stands. A 10% military discount comes off the total.
